Welcome! I have finally amalgamated my illustration/painting and book design sites. So here I am!
I have been providing professional book design since 1995, founded on a background that covers the educational, advertising and printing venues. Publishing has proven to be an enjoyable outlet, bringing forward the opportunity to work for publishers in Canada, such as:
Cormorant Books, DCB (previously Dancing Cat Books), House of Anansi Press, Raincoast Books and Stoddart Publishing. My text designs have been bought by other Canadian, American,
British and Australian publishers. Since 2005, emerging self-publishers have also benefited tremendously from my services.
Design and production has been provided for pre-school picture books; kids junior fiction and teen fiction; self-help books and non-fiction environmental books (by authors like David Suzuki); RRSP guide books, some Massey Lecture series books; business and economic books; cookbooks and coffee table books; and over 2,000 fiction titles.
Many of the books have won awards
or have been Giller nominees as a fair amount of the books I work on are literary, poetry and non-fiction.
Some of the shortlisted Giller Prize books included: Beyond Measure, Home Schooling, The Perfect Circle and Immaculate Conception. Other award-winning books were: Cherie Dimaline’s The Marrow Thieves, Andrew J. Borkowski's Copernicus Avenue, Cary Fagan's My Life Among the Apes was added to the Scotiabank Giller Prize longlist; Carol Bishop-Gwyn's The Pursuit of Perfection: A Life of Celia Franca was a finalist for the Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-fiction; and George Bowering's Pinboy was a finalist for the BC National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction. And there have been many more DCB and Cormorant books with awards — too many to mention
The Alcuin Citation for Excellence in Book Design in Canada was achieved for Olivo Oliva when I teamed up with Angel Guerra who created the cover, and I created the text design (interior).
I have also been designing for Timelines Research Inc. creating small-run custom books for family histories.
Whether you are a poet trying to put together a professional-looking chapbook or professionally printed book (Moon Songs by Judita Pamfil), or a chef that wishes to put your recipes into print, or a teacher/speaker who wishes to have a book to consolidate your teachings (Talk About Anything With Your Kids by Catherine Wakelin), I can help you produce a professional book that you will be proud to sell.
With ebooks on the scene I can also set you up with an ebook-ready file that you would be able to put onto your site for download.
Have a look around the site and imagine your creation out there! I am here to help you see your dream materialized.
